Liverpool are reportedly eyeing AS Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks, amid growing uncertainty about Alisson Becker’s long-term future. The urgency for reinforcements became clear after Alisson sustained a serious hamstring injury in a match against Crystal Palace, sidelining him for around six weeks. This injury rules him out of key matches, including fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Bayer Leverkusen.
With Alisson out, Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to fill in once again, having proven his capability as a backup in the past. However, Kelleher’s future at Anfield remains in doubt, as he has expressed interest in leaving to secure a first-choice role elsewhere. Despite transfer links last summer, Liverpool chose to keep him at the club.
While Alisson’s injury creates immediate concerns, Liverpool’s interest in Svilar is seen as part of a long-term strategy. Rumors suggest Alisson could depart next summer, while Kelleher is also expected to seek regular playing time. Liverpool recently signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, but they are reportedly exploring Svilar as an additional option.
Reports indicate that Liverpool have made inquiries about Svilar, valued at €35m-€40m (£29.3m-£33.4m) by Roma. Newcastle United and Manchester City are also monitoring the 25-year-old, but Roma will only consider selling him if they receive a suitable offer. With the January transfer window approaching, Liverpool must decide whether to pursue Svilar or focus on their current goalkeepers.
