Liverpool are unlikely to part with Trent Alexander-Arnold before the season ends, as they’ve set a price that Real Madrid isn’t willing to meet for a January transfer.
With only eight months left on his contract, the 26-year-old has become a major topic of discussion in the football world. A Liverpool academy graduate, Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, and he may surprise fans by opting not to extend his stay at Anfield, potentially pursuing a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid, however, appears content to wait. Speculation about Alexander-Arnold’s move to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad intensified after he expressed his goal of becoming the first full-back to win the Ballon d’Or, an award often dominated by La Liga players.
Despite Dani Carvajal’s recent injury, which has highlighted Madrid’s need for a strong full-back, club president Florentino Perez is reluctant to approve a mid-season move for Alexander-Arnold due to Liverpool’s high asking price. The Reds are reportedly demanding at least £42 million (€50 million) for the England international, an amount Madrid is hesitant to pay when he’ll be available for free in just six months.
Perez sees no urgency in meeting Liverpool’s demands, as Alexander-Arnold would soon be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement. For Liverpool fans, this could mean that their homegrown star is indeed playing his last season at Anfield.
Since joining Liverpool’s first team in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has played a key role, particularly during the 2018-19 Champions League campaign, and has contributed to 102 goals across 322 matches.
