Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté Breaks Silence on Contract Talks and Dismisses Exit Rumours

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté has spoken out about his future and ongoing contract negotiations with the club. The 25-year-old, whose current deal expires next summer, has received a new contract offer from Liverpool, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement.

Konaté revealed that his agent recently met with the club and confirmed that he has responded to their offer with a counterproposal. He firmly denied rumours circulating on social media, calling them “completely fake,” and insisted there was never a point when he was close to signing a new deal.

Recent speculation had suggested the France international might run down his contract and leave on a free transfer, but Konaté rejected those claims as well.

Speaking to The Independent, he said: “My agent met the club last week, but I don’t know what will happen. I can’t say what my agent said to me, but we’ll see. I just want to say one thing: everything you saw on social media is completely fake. I didn’t ask the club for anything. They made an offer, I responded, and that’s it. The rest – that I’m waiting to run down my deal – is all false.” He added: “In November, people said I was close to signing. I thought, ‘Wow, they know more than I do,’ because that wasn’t true at the time. That’s why I was a bit annoyed.”

Konaté remains a crucial figure for Liverpool, not only due to his defensive prowess but also for his leadership in the dressing room. With the club aiming to compete for top honours, retaining players of his calibre is essential. It remains to be seen whether the two parties can come to terms in the near future.
