Liverpool star ‘expected’ to depart following Alexander Isak’s arrival

A Liverpool departure looks set to follow the imminent arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
The Reds have spent big this summer, bringing in Florian Wirtz for £116m and Hugo Ekitike, while also parting ways with Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and the late Diogo Jota.
Arne Slot has been determined to bolster his frontline, with Isak at the centre of a lengthy transfer saga. That pursuit now appears close to completion, with Liverpool agreeing a British-record fee with Newcastle.
Alongside Isak, the Merseyside club are pushing to secure Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace before today’s 7pm (UK) deadline. The defender, who featured in Palace’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, has been heavily linked with Anfield. Should Guehi join, Joe Gomez is expected to depart.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Gomez could move to AC Milan, provided he approves the transfer. The Italians view him as a replacement for Malick Thiaw, who has joined Newcastle. Gomez, 28, has been at Liverpool since 2015, racking up 243 appearances, including a cameo in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal.
After that match, Slot admitted he was awaiting updates on potential arrivals: “I will hear probably tonight if anything will happen,” he said.
If both Isak and Guehi deals are finalised, they will become Liverpool’s eighth and ninth signings of the summer.
