Liverpool struggled at Stamford Bridge, aiming to end a streak of poor form following consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray in the previous week. The Reds started sluggishly, and Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo capitalized, scoring past stand-in goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was making his Premier League debut, just 14 minutes in.
However, the 2024/25 Premier League champions rallied when Alexander Isak set up Cody Gakpo for a sharp finish in the 63rd minute. The match seemed to be heading for a draw until 18-year-old Brazilian Estevao scored dramatically in the 95th minute, giving Chelsea a 2-1 victory.
Liverpool’s performance was not reflective of their usual standards, with key players like Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate having difficult games. Meanwhile, some fans focused on another player, Alexis Mac Allister, who has been underperforming recently.
Mac Allister struggled at Stamford Bridge, with fans expressing concerns about his form early in the 2025/26 season. Caicedo appeared to dominate him throughout the match, and social media was filled with critical assessments of the 2022 World Cup winner’s performance.
One fan stated: “Mac Allister, I admire you, but we need to send him to Atletico and bring in a more dynamic ball winner. He’s hurting us every game.”
Another remarked: “Mac Allister is nowhere near his level from last season; it’s concerning.”
A third added, “Mac Allister’s aggressive pressing was ineffective, and Caicedo exploited him, scoring after making a run into an unmarked area. This has happened before; it’s frustrating.”

Mac Allister was substituted for Wataru Endo in the 87th minute, likely relieved to leave the pitch after his lackluster performance.
