Liverpool: Szoboszlai tipped to become ‘one of the world’s best’ in new Hungary position

Hungarian media have praised Dominik Szoboszlai after he impressed in a new role during Hungary’s 2-2 draw with the Republic of Ireland on Saturday. Despite going 2-0 up early, Hungary were pegged back after Roland Sallai’s red card and late goals from Evan Ferguson and Adam Idah.

Ireland controlled the ball and created more chances, but Szoboszlai’s defensive performance stood out. His coach even suggested he could develop into one of the best players in the world as a holding midfielder.

Since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig, the 24-year-old has shown versatility to stay in the team. He recently filled in at right-back due to injury problems, performing well against Newcastle and scoring a brilliant free-kick against Arsenal. Against Ireland, however, he dropped into a deeper midfield role after the red card and excelled despite having never played there for Liverpool.

His manager praised his ability to adapt, claiming Szoboszlai has the qualities to be world-class as a number six. Hungarian outlets echoed this, highlighting how he controlled play from deep and calling him a “genius” for his involvement in Hungary’s second goal.
