Liverpool’s hopes of landing their top transfer target this summer have been dealt a major blow.

Liverpool have already made major investments this summer and are eager to spend further in pursuit of a top-class striker. Their ideal signing is Alexander Isak, and while recent reports had fueled optimism among fans, those hopes have now been significantly dampened.

The Reds have shown serious interest in securing Isak from Newcastle United, even after splashing over £100 million on Florian Wirtz, and an additional £40 million and £25 million on Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong respectively. Despite their heavy spending, Liverpool are reportedly still prepared to make a major offer for the 25-year-old forward, who netted 27 goals in all competitions last season.

Although the updates initially excited Liverpool supporters, the current reality is far less promising. According to The Telegraph, Newcastle have not received any formal approach from Liverpool regarding Isak and remain firm in their position that he is not for sale. They’ve set a staggering £150 million price tag just to start discussions, a valuation Liverpool consider too steep to pursue at this stage.

With Newcastle determined to keep their star striker for another season, Liverpool acknowledge that signing Isak this summer appears highly unlikely. Unless Newcastle soften their stance—which seems improbable—Liverpool may have to shift focus to alternative targets. If they are willing to wait until 2026, however, a move for Isak might become more realistic.
