Liverpool’s Position on Andy Robertson Amid Atletico Madrid’s Summer Interest
Atletico Madrid have reportedly made Liverpool’s Andy Robertson their primary left-back target for the summer transfer window.
The La Liga side may look to challenge Liverpool’s stance on the player, especially with Milos Kerkez expected to arrive at Anfield soon. The Hungarian is likely to replace Kostas Tsimikas as the backup left-back, with the Greek international seen as the more logical option to depart.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Atletico’s interest in Robertson surpasses their admiration for AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez. Despite this, Liverpool continue to value the 31-year-old highly, even though his contract runs out next year and he’s among the club’s highest earners at £160,000 per week.
While Robertson’s recent form hasn’t been his best, his experience and quality still make him Liverpool’s standout option at left-back. The club are unlikely to part with him unless he expresses a strong desire to move to Spain.
Robertson himself appears ready for the competition that Kerkez’s arrival would bring, recently stating: “When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect to have competition.” His comments suggest he’s far from backing down.
