Liverpool’s hopes of securing one of their reported transfer targets appear to have taken a major hit.
Milos Kerkez, the Bournemouth left-back linked to the Reds by reliable sources like Fabrizio Romano and Paul Joyce, had been touted as a potential signing this month. The i Paper even suggested the 21-year-old favored a move to Merseyside over interest from Manchester United and Manchester City, both of whom had also approached his representatives.
However, the Hungary international has now poured cold water on those rumors. During a livestream on his official YouTube channel, Kerkez directly addressed speculation, firmly stating: “I will not go to Liverpool. For everybody listening, I will not go to Liverpool.”
This clear declaration is a setback for the Premier League leaders, with just over a week left in the January transfer window and no signings yet to bolster Arne Slot’s squad. Strengthening at left-back has been a priority for many fans, given Andy Robertson’s dip in form and his heavy workload compared to Kostas Tsimikas.
Kerkez’s comments might simply reflect his desire to remain committed to Bournemouth, though he made no explicit mention of his loyalty to the Cherries. Instead, he categorically ruled out a move to Liverpool, signaling that it may take significant effort to change his stance.
Despite this, it’s possible that Richard Hughes and Arne Slot may still pursue the 21-year-old, but persuading him to swap the Vitality Stadium for Anfield could prove to be a monumental challenge.
