Man City urged to sign Liverpool ace in a deal that “might work out well for everyone”

Both Liverpool and Manchester City may need to address their goalkeeping options in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The two Premier League heavyweights face the possibility of losing key goalkeepers, which could prompt them to make reinforcements between the posts.

Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher is widely expected to seek a move away from Anfield in pursuit of more consistent playing time. Meanwhile, City boss Pep Guardiola could look to part ways with either Ederson or Stefan Ortega in favor of a new first-choice keeper.

Former Liverpool and England shot-stopper David James has encouraged City to consider signing the 26-year-old Irish international, praising his composure, experience under pressure, and tactical fit for Guardiola’s system.

Kelleher has openly shared his desire for regular starts, saying, “I’ve made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a No. 1 and play week in, week out.”

With Alisson Becker firmly cemented as Liverpool’s main goalkeeper and the expected arrival of Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili, Kelleher’s chances at Anfield appear increasingly limited.

James remarked on Kelleher’s temperament and winning mentality, stating, “He’s calm, unshakable, and has experience in high-stakes situations like shootouts — all key traits of a top goalkeeper.”

He added that if Liverpool are looking to let a keeper go and City are in the market for one, a move for Kelleher could work well: “It’s not even a far move — just 45 minutes down the road. You rarely see transfers like this between title contenders, but it might benefit all involved.”

Could Kelleher end up at City?

Such a transfer would certainly raise eyebrows due to the rarity of direct deals between Premier League rivals.

Kelleher is also reportedly on the radar of clubs like West Ham, Chelsea, and Bournemouth, with Liverpool valuing him at around £20–£30 million.
