Manchester United suffered a defeat to Spurs in the Europa League final held in Bilbao, ending their European campaign in disappointment.

The all-English showdown at San Mames saw Brennan Johnson score the decisive goal just before halftime, securing Spurs’ fourth win over United this season and ending their 17-year wait for silverware under Ange Postecoglou.

Despite both clubs enduring poor domestic seasons—sitting 16th and 17th in the Premier League—they battled for a Champions League spot in what turned out to be a scrappy and disjointed encounter.

United’s performance drew heavy criticism from their fanbase, particularly targeting four players who they feel should be sold this summer.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana, frequently under fire throughout the season for costly mistakes, was once again blamed for his role in the defeat. Luke Shaw was also slammed for his lack of urgency in reacting to Johnson’s goal.

Fans took to X to express their frustration, with one saying: “Onana needs to be sold and never play for this club again, and Shaw,” while another added, “Onana needs to be sold in the summer. Cannot command his defence!!!! Awful.”

Midfielder Mason Mount, despite his semi-final heroics, also drew backlash for failing to influence the game, with supporters stating, “We need to get rid of Mount man I’ve tried,” and calling his display “shockingly bad.”

Finally, £72 million striker Rasmus Hojlund was heavily criticised for his ineffective showing up front. Outplayed by Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, fans called for him to be offloaded too. One fan said: “If we’re serious about a solid rebuild next season, players like Shaw, Maguire, Onana, and Hojlund should be sold, even for peanuts,” while another added Hojlund “should never have another game in a United kit and should be sold asap.”
