United’s ongoing negotiations to sign 20-year-old left wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce could clear the way for Liverpool to pursue Arne Slot’s ‘dream signing’.

According to David Ornstein and The Athletic, United has entered talks with Lecce over Dorgu, who is regarded as one of the top young prospects in world football. Dorgu, tracked by numerous clubs during the 2024 summer transfer window, is considered an asset due to his versatility, capable of playing both left and right wing-back roles, which would suit United’s tactical needs. He has also impressed in attack this season, scoring three goals in 20 Serie A appearances.

However, should United secure Dorgu, it could end their interest in Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, which would open the door for Liverpool. According to Fabrizio Romano via Give Me Sport, both Liverpool and United have been closely monitoring the Hungarian full-back’s progress.

Kerkez has been exceptional in the Premier League this season, contributing two goals and three assists in 23 matches, including a stunning strike against Newcastle United. Reports suggest that Liverpool is particularly keen on signing Kerkez to fit Slot’s style of play, believing his profile would thrive under the Dutch manager’s tactics at Anfield.

Ahead of Bournemouth’s clash with Manchester City in November, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola played down rumors regarding Kerkez’s future, saying:

“I don’t know how much truth there is in these rumours. Milos has been solid this season, maturing and benefiting from last season’s experience. He’s at a new level now, but still very young, and must continue developing.”
