Manchester City have reportedly joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign Spanish midfielder Martín Zubimendi, with the Real Sociedad star valued at €60m ahead of the January transfer window.

Zubimendi, 25, was initially set to join Liverpool in the summer after the Reds activated his £51m release clause. However, the midfielder chose to stay at Real Sociedad, signing a new contract with his boyhood club. Despite this, both Liverpool and Arsenal have continued to track the Spain international, with both clubs reportedly ready to activate his release clause once the winter window opens.

Now, Premier League champions Manchester City have emerged as serious contenders. According to the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola’s side is considering a move for Zubimendi to bolster their midfield, especially following the season-ending ACL injury to key player Rodri.

Zubimendi, a key figure in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, has remained unfazed by the transfer rumours, stating during the international break: “There will always be rumors, especially with January approaching, but I don’t waste energy on outside noise. I’m happy with how I’m handling it and staying focused.”

Though committed to Real Sociedad, analysts believe the Basque club may soon face pressure to sell their prized asset while his market value is at its peak. Arsenal, looking to strengthen their midfield in the title race, and Manchester City, in need of reinforcements, both view Zubimendi as a key target.
