Matheus Cunha ‘picks his Manchester United shirt number’ — and he’s set to take over a major star’s jersey.

Cunha to Inherit Iconic Jersey as Manchester United Move Nears

Matheus Cunha has reportedly selected his shirt number ahead of a summer switch to Manchester United, with the Wolves star poised to become Ruben Amorim’s first signing at the club.

The Brazilian forward stood out in a challenging season for Wolves, racking up 17 goals and six assists under Vitor Pereira’s management.

Although the transfer window doesn’t officially open until June, Cunha has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford. David Ornstein recently revealed that United are prepared to trigger his £62.5 million release clause.

United boss Ruben Amorim has openly admired the 25-year-old. Prior to a recent match against Wolves, he said:
“I think he’s doing an amazing job. He’s playing a 3-4-3 and doing really well. Cunha and the rest have real quality — they’re fresh and sharp.”

Ben Jacobs now reports that United are set to activate Cunha’s clause this week, with a five-year deal already agreed.

Set to Take Rashford’s Number 10 Shirt
According to the same report, Cunha is expected to take the iconic number 10 shirt — currently worn by Marcus Rashford — if the transfer proceeds as planned.

Rashford has worn the shirt since 2018, following in the footsteps of legends like Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimović. However, he has been sidelined due to injury and was previously sent on loan after disciplinary issues.

Cunha has faced similar disciplinary challenges, missing six games this season through suspension, which at times strained his relationship with Wolves fans.

Still, he was voted Wolves’ Player of the Season and shared a heartfelt message that hinted at a farewell:
“Thank you for this award. I have no words to express how happy I was this season with all of you. This season will always hold a special place in my heart.”
