Mykhailo Mudryk has been “charged by the FA for doping violations” and is at risk of receiving one of the longest suspensions in football history.

Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for doping violations and faces a significant suspension. He was suspended after failing a doping test last December, where he tested positive for meldonium, a banned substance taken while he was abroad and not on Chelsea duties.

Recent reports indicate he could be banned for up to four years following a positive ‘A’ sample. Mudryk was provisionally suspended while awaiting the results of a ‘B’ sample, and the FA has now confirmed the charges, according to the Telegraph.

An FA spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations regarding the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in compliance with Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we cannot comment further at this time.”

Mudryk has enlisted Morgan Sports Law for help, with Chelsea also providing support. He expressed his disbelief at the positive result, asserting he did not knowingly violate any rules.

In an Instagram statement, the 24-year-old said, “I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance. This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have occurred.”

He remains optimistic about returning to the pitch soon and mentioned he would share more information when possible. Mudryk transferred to Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk for up to £88.5 million but has struggled to make an impact, scoring 10 goals in 73 matches since joining in January 2023.
