Guardiola’s future remains a hot topic of discussion. The lingering question for months has been: will he stay with Manchester City beyond the 2024/25 season, or will he seek a new adventure?
In May, City celebrated a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title, marking the 17th major trophy in Guardiola’s incredible tenure at the Etihad. But even after this achievement, Guardiola surprised fans with a hint about his future.
“The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying,” he revealed to Sky Sports. “We’ve talked with the club – my feeling now is that I want to stay. I’ll be here next season, and we’ll discuss things during the season. But after eight or nine years… we’ll see.”
As the most successful manager in the club’s history, Guardiola has often been rumored to be considering a new path. The 53-year-old is expected to make a decision on his future between December and February, mere months before his contract runs out.
When asked last month about his plans, he told Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa: “Leaving City? It’s not true, I haven’t decided yet. And it’s not true that I’ll be the next England coach. If I had decided, I would say so… but I don’t know either, anything can happen.”
Speculation continues that Guardiola may pursue a national team role, with past links to both Brazil and the United States. Recently, The Athletic reported that Guardiola is drawn to the idea of managing Brazil’s national team. In fact, he felt frustrated when the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) backed away from him after his Barcelona days. Now, the CBF is reportedly eager to bring him on board, with phone discussions underway.
Guardiola has previously mentioned his “dream” to coach at the international level. “In our lives, we have dreams about what we want to do in the future, but it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen,” he said at a 2018 press conference.
