On Monday, footage surfaced online showing the Premier League official repeatedly using explicit language to insult the former Liverpool manager. In response, the PGMOL immediately suspended Coote, pending an investigation.
Reports now suggest the 42-year-old could face further consequences for his remarks in the video.
Coote may face aggravated misconduct charge
According to Martyn Ziegler of The Times, the FA is considering an aggravated misconduct charge against Coote, as he allegedly referenced Klopp’s nationality in his remarks. FA rules define an “aggravated breach” as involving any reference, explicit or implied, to race, color, ethnic origin, or nationality, which can lead to more severe penalties.
The report notes that it is highly unusual, if not unprecedented, for a referee to face such a charge. Although the video may be years old and was not intended for public viewing, this would not prevent the FA from taking action.

Beyond the crude language used, Coote’s inclusion of Klopp’s nationality only exacerbates the situation, whether or not “German” was intended as a slur.
