Tottenham are reportedly looking to make a move for Jack Grealish in January, but this isn’t the first time the club has tried to bring the former Man City star to North London. Grealish previously shared his thoughts on a potential Spurs transfer after a failed attempt back in 2018.
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham recently began talks with Grealish’s camp regarding a January move. Johan Lange, who worked with Grealish at Aston Villa and maintains a strong connection with the player, is reportedly leading the effort. Manager Ange Postecoglou is said to admire Grealish’s versatility and sees him as a competitive option alongside Heung-min Son and James Maddison.
In 2018, Tottenham came close to signing Grealish when Aston Villa was in the Championship. Grealish later helped Villa secure promotion and made his mark in the Premier League. Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Grealish expressed disappointment, believing that joining Spurs could have propelled his career further under Mauricio Pochettino. At the time, he mentioned feeling unsettled after the deal fell through and envisioned making the England squad if he had joined Tottenham.
However, some question Grealish’s fit within Postecoglou’s system. With attacking options like Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and emerging talent Lucas Bergvall, Spurs already have depth in these positions. Additionally, Grealish, now 29, doesn’t align with the younger age profile Spurs have focused on recently, casting doubt on the likelihood of this transfer.
