‘Outstanding’ Premier League defender snubs Spurs and Newcastle with eyes on Liverpool move

IndyKaila News reports that Marc Guehi has turned down advances from both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur over the past two days, making it clear his priority is a move to Liverpool. The Crystal Palace defender, highly rated as one of the Premier League’s brightest centre-back talents, is attracting strong interest as he enters the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.
Newcastle and Spurs both tabled offers recently in a bid to bolster their defensive ranks before the transfer window closes. Spurs, despite already having Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, were keen on adding Guehi, while Newcastle, long-time admirers of the England international, once again failed to secure him after multiple attempts last year.
Guehi, however, is holding out for Liverpool. The Reds have been consistently linked with him this summer as they look to strengthen their back line, with Virgil van Dijk nearing the twilight of his career and injuries continuing to affect other centre-backs. Seen as both a future leader and an immediate solution, Guehi has his sights set on Anfield, even though Liverpool have yet to submit a formal offer, carefully balancing their transfer budget with other squad needs.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, face an uncertain situation. Though eager to keep their defensive linchpin, the club may be forced into talks should a substantial bid arrive given his contract situation. Former England manager Gareth Southgate has previously hailed Guehi as an “exceptional” talent.
