Pochettino fully committed to winning tonight’s match
Mauricio Pochettino has described tonight’s game in the quarter final of the League Cup like playing for a final or playing for their lives.
This fixture has become hugely important for everyone at the club, and you would assume that this is because it now provides their best opportunity to be playing European football again next season judging by their current spot in the league.
If they beat Newcastle United tonight, they will be just two wins off European qualification.
It also presents a chance for Pochettino to win a trophy in England, something he has never done. This would be a great achievement in his first season as Chelsea manager, especially with everything going on.
Also, for this young group of players, many of whom are playing their first season in English football, to win a trophy would be a major boost and sense of success for all of them.
In words cited by The Daily Mail, Pochettino said: “I don’t know which people are saying “Mickey Mouse Cup” but to be honest with you, we are not feeling this way.
“It is a really good opportunity to win. I saw for more than 10 years how clubs celebrate winning this cup. It is one of our objectives. We are taking it seriously and we are going to put out the best team possible as if we are playing for a final or for our lives.”
