Pochettino shares latest update on Romeo Lavia and reveals what Nkunku told him ahead of Manchester City clash

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Romeo Lavia is close to a return injury, and should be available after the upcoming international break.

Lavia joined Chelsea from Southampton last summer, but he’s yet to play after sustaining an injury in training.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Pochettino said of the Belgian: “Romeo Lavia is close to returning as he was training today.

“Hopefully next week he will be involved with the team, then assess when he can help the team,” the boss added.

On Nkunku, who has been training for weeks now after undergoing a successful surgery, Pochettino said the Frenchman is eager to play for Chelsea again, and is even eyeing the game against Newcastle as his potential return date.

“We had some conversations and he [Nkunku] said to me, ‘Coach I want to be ready for after the international break, for Newcastle.’ And then I asked him yesterday and he said, ‘Hhhmm’. I said to him, ‘You’re a liar!” And he said, ‘No I am not’ [I can be ready]’. He’s close,” Pochettino said.

“Hopefully next week they’ll be involved with the team,” the Chelsea boss added.
