Real Madrid have been dealt another injury blow ahead of their Champions League clash with Liverpool this week.
Carlo Ancelotti’s squad has been plagued by injuries this season, with key defenders Daniel Carvajal and Eder Militao both sidelined due to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. David Alaba is still recovering from a similar injury sustained last November, and Lucas Vazquez, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Rodrygo are also unavailable.
Now, Vinicius Junior will also miss the trip to Anfield. The club confirmed that the Brazilian forward has been diagnosed with a left hamstring injury. Real Madrid’s statement read: “Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Vini Jr, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”
This setback comes as Real Madrid faces a difficult start to this season’s Champions League, having lost two of their first four group games. Following a 3-1 defeat at home to AC Milan, they sit 18th in the standings and are at risk of only qualifying for the play-off stage unless their form improves. In contrast, Liverpool are top of the group, having won all four of their opening matches.
With Vinicius Junior unavailable, Real Madrid are likely to turn to one of Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler, or Endrick to partner Kylian Mbappe in attack. While Rodrygo is expected to miss the match, his absence has not yet been officially confirmed. Diaz, recently back from injury, scored five goals in two games for Morocco on international duty, while Guler impressed in a starting role in Real’s 3-0 win over Leganes and may be the most likely choice.
