Reece James in total disagreement with Alan Shearer and names Chelsea star who can hurt Man City
Reason Reece James totally disagrees with Alan Shearer and names Chelsea star who can hurt Man City
Reece James has defended Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson after Alan Shearer claimed he was not a “natural goalscorer”. The Blues head into the huge clash against Manchester City following a morale-boosting 4-1 win against Tottenham on Monday night.
Jackson bagged his first hat-trick for the club against Spurs after he has struggled to consistently find the back of the net. The Senegal international completed a £30million move to Stamford Bridge in the summer and has now scored six goals in 13 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking after the win against Tottenham, via The Sun, James defended Jackson and has backed him to start scoring consistently. “I don’t think he’s needed a pick-me-up once,” the Chelsea captain said.
“He is one of the most energetic guys. He knows his ability and why he is at Chelsea.
“As a striker, you go through spells when you don’t score or miss chances. He just has to keep working hard.
“That is what he’s done and he got his reward. I’m happy for him. It’s a huge confidence boost for anyone to get a hat-trick, especially against such a good side.”
However, Chelsea face a huge test against City at Stamford Bridge this afternoon and will need Jackson to be at his best – if Mauricio Pochettino allows him to retain his place in attack. The Blues, who have drawn with Liverpool and Arsenal this season, will have renewed belief that things are at last starting to fall into place.
James continued: “We know it’s going to be tough — City are an amazing side. We need to prepare right and put in a good performance. Any result will show how well we have done.”
