The 39-year-old was officially appointed on November 1, replacing Erik ten Hag after a disappointing start to the season despite last year’s FA Cup victory. Amorim, previously at Sporting CP, began his new role on November 11, with Ruud van Nistelrooy serving as interim manager during United’s recent Carabao Cup and Premier League matches.

Upon his arrival at Carrington, Amorim was greeted by key figures such as sporting director Dan Ashworth, CEO Omar Berrada, and technical director Jason Wilcox. He also made a surprise appearance during a stadium tour at Old Trafford, leaving fans starstruck as he greeted them in the dressing room.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website via MUTV, Amorim shared his excitement and vision for the club. He described the opportunity as a “real honour” and expressed confidence in building a strong identity for the team.

“I felt relaxed walking around the ‘Theatre of Dreams,’ although maybe because it wasn’t a matchday,” he said. “Taking on this role is an honour, but I know we need time. To win that time, we need to win games. But for me, the priority is establishing identity—creating principles, character, and the values that made this club great.”

He emphasized teamwork as a foundation for individual brilliance. “If you work as a team, individual talent will naturally shine,” he said.

Amorim also paid tribute to the club’s history, referencing legends like Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson, as well as the resilience shown after the Munich air disaster. “This kind of strength is something we must instill in our team. Players should understand the history of Manchester United—its trophies, its tragedies, and its triumphs. It’s crucial to keep that spirit alive.”

Amorim’s first match as manager will be against Ipswich Town on November 24, where fans will get their first glimpse of his vision in action.
