Sergio Aguero is confident his former club Manchester City will reclaim their place at the top of English football and win the Premier League title, tipping Phil Foden to rediscover his best form and challenge for Player of the Year honours.

Pep Guardiola’s side endured a rare dip last season, finishing outside the top two for the first time since his debut campaign. With Kevin De Bruyne departing and new signings like Rayan Cherki arriving, Aguero believes City can bounce back, having previously won six titles in seven years before being overtaken by Liverpool. He predicts the Reds will feature in the top four alongside Arsenal and Chelsea, though he avoided ranking them in order.

The City legend sees Foden as a crucial figure in their title push. The England international struggled last season, but Aguero recalls how he led the charge two years ago and expects him to reach those heights again, even amid competition from stars such as Cole Palmer. Naming his Player of the Year contenders, Aguero told Stake: “I’d like Foden to win it again. Alongside him, I’d mention Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, and Declan Rice.”

During Guardiola’s reign, City players like De Bruyne and Erling Haaland have often claimed major awards. Aguero hopes Haaland can reclaim the Golden Boot, having been outscored by Mohamed Salah last term after netting 90 goals in his first two seasons. He also sees Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s new signing Viktor Gyokeres as potential challengers for the top scorer prize.
