Sky journalist confirms Liverpool are pushing hard to secure the signing of ‘exceptional’ star in January
Liverpool are reportedly planning a fresh move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the January transfer window.
The Reds were close to signing the 25-year-old in the summer, with the player even completing his medical, but the transfer collapsed after Palace failed to secure a replacement and refused to let him leave.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool retain a very strong and concrete interest in the England international and are determined to finalise the deal in January. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with Guehi.
With Giovanni Leoni sidelined for the season and Ibrahima Konate struggling for form, Liverpool are short of reliable centre-backs. Guehi is seen as an ideal solution who could immediately strengthen their defence and possibly replace Konate, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Crystal Palace now face mounting pressure to cash in on Guehi in January rather than risk losing him for free in the summer. The defender, described as “exceptional,” is said to be open to a move and views Liverpool as a major step forward in his career.
