Liverpool’s £125 million signing Alexander Isak will be eased into action gradually, with Arne Slot stressing that the striker won’t be playing 90 minutes in every match right away.

The Swedish forward joined from Newcastle United on deadline day, and Slot described completing the transfer as his proudest achievement of the summer window.

“A lot happened on the final day,” Slot said. “But the highlight for me was finalising Alex’s deal. Richard [Hughes], the owners, and everyone involved worked extremely hard, and I’m delighted that effort brought him here. It’s a great boost for the club, the fans, the squad, and myself.”

Isak arrives after netting 27 goals last season for Newcastle, but Slot acknowledged that his fitness requires careful management. He also thanked Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson for limiting Isak’s workload during the international break, avoiding the risk of injury.

Why Isak won’t play full matches yet

Having missed most of pre-season, the 25-year-old is still building up sharpness.
“Don’t expect him to play 90 minutes every game in the next few weeks,” Slot explained. “We signed him for six years, not just for the next two weeks. That’s the bigger picture.”

Isak himself admitted he isn’t yet at peak condition, though his early return to training after international duty highlights his determination to get up to speed quickly.

Liverpool’s other summer forward addition, Hugo Ekitike, has started brightly, easing the pressure on the new No.9 as he works towards full fitness.

Slot added that while he hasn’t spoken much with Isak yet due to his international commitments, he knows exactly what the striker brings. “We’ve played against him a few times, and his quality is obvious,” he said.

With Isak and Florian Wirtz both joining this summer, Liverpool now boast one of Europe’s most exciting—and costly—forward lines. Slot, however, is intent on ensuring the club’s record signing is managed carefully for long-term success.
