“Sources indicate…” – Transfer expert reveals expected timeline for Kerkez’s move to Liverpool

Milos Kerkez may be on the verge of joining Liverpool, with the transfer expected to be finalised soon if all goes according to plan.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Wednesday morning that Liverpool are set for one final round of negotiations with Bournemouth to push the deal across the line. The Hungarian left-back has already agreed personal terms with the Reds.

Having recently added Jeremie Frimpong to bolster the right side of their defence, Liverpool now appear close to securing another key signing on the opposite flank.

How soon could Liverpool seal the Kerkez deal?

TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has reported that Liverpool have struck a £40 million agreement with Bournemouth for Kerkez. While that’s £5 million more than their initial bid, it’s still £10 million below the valuation the Cherries had originally hoped for. The transfer could be wrapped up within the next few days.

Bailey also noted: “Liverpool have settled every part of the agreement — Kerkez’s medical is booked, and they’re aiming to complete the move by the weekend. The player is enthusiastic about joining Liverpool, despite interest from other clubs over the past month. He made it clear that Anfield was his only choice.”

Kerkez could revitalise Liverpool’s left side

After a season to evaluate his squad, Arne Slot is now beginning to shape the team to his liking. Frimpong’s arrival is expected to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role at right-back, with Conor Bradley offering depth. Kerkez’s signing, meanwhile, could signal the departure of Kostas Tsimikas this summer.

Opta analyst Matt Furniss highlighted Kerkez’s strengths earlier this year — particularly his overlapping runs and delivery from open play — areas in which he ranks among the best Premier League left-backs for the 2024/25 season.

Andy Robertson, once a major creative force, has seen his attacking contribution dip, managing just four assists since the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign. Kerkez could offer Liverpool a new attacking edge from the left as Slot looks to refresh the squad.

Barring any late setbacks, Kerkez’s arrival could be confirmed by the weekend.
