Thomas Frank highlights the one quality Brennan Johnson excels at more than any other Tottenham player.

Thomas Frank has identified a standout trait that makes Brennan Johnson different from the rest of Tottenham’s wingers.

Johnson’s journey at Spurs mirrors that of Moussa Sissoko, having gone from a player once heavily criticised to one now embraced by the fanbase. Supporters are beginning to value the Welshman for his strengths rather than dwelling on what he lacks.

The 24-year-old cemented his place in club history by netting the winner in the Europa League final and finishing last season as Tottenham’s top scorer with 18 goals.

Now deployed mainly on the left under Frank, Johnson has already struck twice this campaign. The Spurs boss emphasised that he trusts the forward on either flank, praising his contributions since the season began.

Speaking to Football.London, Frank said:

“Brennan is a very good player. He can play both sides. He played on the left in two games and scored two goals, which is a decent return. He’s very important for us, helping the team in big moments.”

Frank, who previously tried to sign Johnson for Brentford, singled out the winger’s late runs into the box as the unique quality that separates him from Tottenham’s other wide players.

He explained:

“What I like about Brennan is that, whether on the right or left, he’s excellent at arriving in the box and running in behind. That’s one of his biggest strengths. Wilson [Odobert] and Xavi are more tricky, but not as consistent with getting into the box — and that’s crucial if you want to score goals.”
