The futures of several Liverpool forwards have been under scrutiny recently, with Darwin Nunez among those attracting attention.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently suggested (via YouTube) that Liverpool’s No. 9 is likely to leave this summer, after coming close to a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in January.
While it remains uncertain whether this will be Nunez’s final season at Anfield, the 25-year-old has reportedly drawn interest from a major European club.
Atletico Madrid Considering Move for Nunez
On Tuesday, Ben Jacobs reported for GIVEMESPORT (also sharing the article on X) that Atletico Madrid are weighing up a summer bid for Nunez.
Diego Simeone’s team is said to be preparing an offer in the range of €35m-€40m (£29.5m-£33.7m) for the Uruguayan striker. Al-Nassr also remains interested, and an Anfield exit for the 25-year-old is considered a ‘possibility.’
Would Liverpool Accept a Major Loss on Nunez?
After scoring 15 goals in his debut season and improving to 18 last year, Nunez has struggled for consistency this campaign, managing just seven goals in 40 appearances (Transfermarkt).
Despite moments of brilliance—such as his stoppage-time brace against Brentford—his overall output hasn’t matched expectations, especially given Liverpool’s initial £64m investment in him from Benfica. Jacobs’ report suggests Atletico believe they can sign him at a significantly reduced price.
Selling at a 50% loss would represent poor business for Liverpool, especially if they fail to secure a replacement. However, with three years left on his contract, the club is under no pressure to accept a cut-price deal.
