Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly set to secure a significant salary boost as he prepares to join Real Madrid, following confirmation of his decision to leave Liverpool.
Throughout Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, speculation surrounded the future of the academy graduate. While Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk opted to sign new deals, Alexander-Arnold has chosen to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere.
On Monday, he officially announced he would not be renewing his contract at Anfield, bringing an end to a 20-year association with his boyhood club. The announcement came via a heartfelt video and written statement, posted the day after Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Chelsea.
Liverpool also released a tribute, acknowledging the England star’s key role in one of the club’s most successful periods, which included two Premier League titles.
Real Madrid Contract Details Revealed
What has long been rumoured now looks set to become reality, as Alexander-Arnold prepares to join Real Madrid—linking up with fellow England international Jude Bellingham at the Spanish giants.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, he is expected to sign a five-year deal with Los Blancos. Sky Sport’s Sacha Tavolieri adds that the right-back will earn around €15 million per year before taxes, bonuses, and signing-on fees—an increase on his Liverpool wages, though still below the top earners at Madrid, such as Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappé.
Though his Liverpool contract officially ends on July 1, The Sun reports that Real Madrid may look to bring him in early so he can participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off in the U.S. in June. If an early release is agreed, Alexander-Arnold could make his debut on June 15 against Al Hilal in Miami.
To date, the 26-year-old has made 351 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 23 goals and providing 92 assists. He could still feature in three more matches before his departure, including home fixtures against Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
