“Troy Deeney Dismisses Mo Salah as World-Class, Reveals 5 Players Who Make the Cut”

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney recently shared his candid opinion on Mo Salah, sparking debate among football fans. Despite Salah’s remarkable record of 221 goals for Liverpool and a trophy-laden career, Deeney declared on talkSPORT that he does not consider the Egyptian forward to be world-class.

Explaining his stance, the 36-year-old said, “My argument has always been that I just don’t think he’s world-class. For me, world-class means someone I’d want my kids to emulate. If I had to guide my kids who aspire to be forwards, I’d tell them to look at players like Vinícius Jr rather than Mohamed Salah.”

While acknowledging Salah’s incredible goal-scoring ability and effectiveness, Deeney maintained it’s a matter of personal opinion. “His numbers are unbelievable, and he’s achieved amazing things, but for me, that doesn’t necessarily define world-class.”

Salah’s stellar performances continue to speak for themselves, with the forward already netting eight goals in 11 Premier League games this season, helping Liverpool maintain their title challenge. However, Deeney further explained his viewpoint in his column for The Sun, where he reiterated his respect for Salah’s talent but stood firm in his assessment.

“The Liverpool star is a brilliant winger with incredible stats, but in my book, he’s not world-class,” Deeney wrote. “This is not a personal dig. I’ve played against him and know how good he is, but I don’t see him in that category.”

Interestingly, Deeney applied similar logic to Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé, stating the French striker isn’t currently world-class either. However, he did name five players who he believes deserve the title: Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Rodri, Erling Haaland, and Vinícius Jr, including two of Salah’s Liverpool teammates.

Deeney’s remarks have left many fans puzzled, especially given Salah’s consistent brilliance. Whether or not the opinions resonate, they’ve reignited the debate over what truly defines a “world-class” player.
