Tyson Fury Pays Tribute Following Death of Boxing Icon Ricky Hatton at 46
Ricky Hatton was discovered dead at his Greater Manchester home on Sunday, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the boxing world, led by Tyson Fury and Amir Khan.
Police confirmed that officers found a body at Hatton’s address on Bowlacre Road in Gee Cross at 6:45am on September 14, adding that the death is not being treated as suspicious. A cordon was set up around the property as investigations continued. The beloved Stockport-born fighter was just 46.
Among the first to react was former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who posted two photos with Hatton and wrote: “RIP to the legend Ricky Hatton. There will only ever be one Ricky Hatton. Can’t believe this, so young.”
Amir Khan also shared a heartfelt tribute, calling Hatton “one of Britain’s greatest boxers, a friend, a mentor, a warrior.” Khan reflected on the struggles athletes often face outside the ring, urging people to take mental health seriously: “It isn’t weakness, it’s part of being human. Talk. Reach out. We need more compassion and understanding.”
Chris Eubank Jr added his respects on social media, saying: “Rest in peace Mr Ricky Hatton. We salute you.”
Hatton, a former two-weight world champion, had been preparing for a December comeback fight against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai, 13 years after his last professional outing. Speaking in July, he expressed his excitement about returning, acknowledging his age but insisting he still had goals and ambitions to pursue.
