The Liverpool captain has provided an update on negotiations for a new contract while also taking a jab at Arsenal regarding their injury situation.

In the recent 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Van Dijk started as center-back alongside Ibrahima Konate and scored the Reds’ first equalizer with a close-range header following a flick-on from Luis Diaz.

Mohamed Salah, who is also set to become a free agent next summer like Van Dijk, found the net for Liverpool in the second half.

While Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber returned to the starting lineup, Van Dijk made light of the situation when asked about any injuries to Timber and Gabriel Magalhaes during the game and how it might have influenced Liverpool’s strategy.

“Another player got injured?” he remarked. “Wow. I think they only had two injuries today, didn’t they? So they fielded a very strong team. It’s part of the game. We were pushing and I think we deserved to score the equalizer.”
