Pep Guardiola has admitted that his Manchester City team “cannot compete” with Liverpool, highlighting the threat posed by the Reds’ counter-attacking prowess under Arne Slot.

He elaborated on Liverpool’s strengths, saying, “I love wingers, but I wanted more control. We knew that when they lose the ball, the counter-attack with Salah, Szoboszlai, Luiz, Gakpo, and later Nunez is devastating. They are faster, stronger, and quicker than us in those moments.”
Guardiola’s tactical choices raised eyebrows, with Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, and Jack Grealish starting on the bench. Though all three were introduced in the second half, they struggled to influence the game. Liverpool sealed the victory with a Mo Salah penalty 12 minutes from time, following Cody Gakpo’s opener in front of the Kop.
