West London derby – Paul Merson predicts the winner of Chelsea vs Brentford ahead of Saturday

Paul Merson has now made his prediction for Saturday’s west London derby between Chelsea and Brentford.

Chelsea drew 2-2 with Paul Merson‘s former club Arsenal last weekend and face another team from the capital when Thomas Frank’s men travel to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues will be looking for revenge after Brentford managed to beat them 2-0 in the same fixture last season.

The Bees were also able to finish higher in the table than their west London rivals, coming ninth.

Paul Merson’s Chelsea vs Brentford prediction

After a display against Arsenal that was mostly solid, Merson is backing Chelsea to beat Brentford 2-0 on Saturday.

In his Sportskeeda column, he said: “If you takeaway the last 15 minutes, Chelsea dominated that game and looked like they’d keep their winning run going with a statement result. I fancy them to beat Brentford comfortably, so I’m going for a 2-0 win.”

Chelsea to beat Brentford

Even without their talisman Ivan Toney, Brentford are still proving to be a decent outfit.

They defeated Burnley by three goals last time out and are only a few positions behind Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Chelsea are only in 10th, so it is not the greatest achievement for Brentford, but it does show that the two are still not miles away from each other despite the former having spent so much money recently.

We think Chelsea will come out on top on Saturday, though, with Pochettino’s side looking like a much better outfit recently. They easily could have beaten Arsenal if it were not for some silly mistakes towards the end of the game.

You cannot write Brentford off. They have a good record against Chelsea, winning their last two games at Stamford Bridge.

But if the likes of Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling show up as they have done in recent weeks, then the home side should claim all three points.

The former has really impressed and played as false 9 against Arsenal, which he recently spoke about. However, Nicolas Jackson was fit enough to make the bench for that game, so there is a strong possibility that he starts up front while Palmer is moved out wide.
