“What a Spanish source has just reported regarding Tchouameni and his possible move to Liverpool

Liverpool fans have been advised to keep an eye on one of Europe’s top midfield talents — though not for the reasons many would have predicted just weeks ago.

As the Reds focus on reinforcing their squad at left-back and in attack, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni has unexpectedly come into the picture as a serious summer possibility — a development that could have major implications if it materialises.

According to FourFourTwo, Liverpool have received encouragement to pursue the French midfielder, who could now be available for a reduced fee of around £59 million. That’s significantly lower than the £68.3 million Real Madrid paid Monaco for him in 2022, as reported by Marca.

Spanish source Fichajes adds that Real may now be open to letting Tchouameni leave, despite the 25-year-old still being viewed as one of the premier young holding midfielders in world football.

This apparent shift in stance is believed to stem from new manager Xabi Alonso’s deep pool of midfield talent, including Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, and the potential redeployment of Trent Alexander-Arnold in a central role.

Tchouameni, who has occasionally featured as a centre-back under Carlo Ancelotti, could now find himself surplus to requirements in a squad full of midfield depth — potentially reigniting Liverpool’s long-standing interest in the player.

Slot not targeting a defensive midfielder — for now

Despite the opportunity and potential bargain, Arne Slot doesn’t currently see defensive midfield as a transfer priority. Liverpool’s attention is firmly on reinforcing other areas.

There have already been signs of activity in those positions: Milos Kerkez has withdrawn from international duty amid strong Anfield links, while speculation continues to swirl around Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz possibly moving to Saudi Arabia — both situations that could force Liverpool into action.

Ryan Gravenberch’s strong performances in a deeper midfield role last season, alongside the continued availability of Wataru Endo and Stefan Bajcetic, means the club no longer sees the No.6 role as a top concern like it was a few years ago.

Still, if Tchouameni truly becomes available for under £60 million, it would be hard for Liverpool to completely ignore such a high-calibre player — especially if Real Madrid’s plans leave him on the periphery after the Club World Cup.

His blend of youth, versatility, and top-level experience would strengthen any squad, even if his arrival isn’t seen as a necessity right now.

Liverpool are also believed to be strongly interested in Florian Wirtz this summer, and any serious move for Tchouameni might depend on how much room is left in the budget once that potential deal is addressed.
