Ian Wright reveals how Liverpool’s tactical changes have turned Mohamed Salah into “a passenger” this season.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has offered his thoughts on why Mohamed Salah’s form at Liverpool has dipped so sharply this season.

The Egyptian forward was unstoppable last campaign, claiming the Golden Boot and playing a vital role in Liverpool’s Premier League title win. However, his performances have noticeably declined, and Wright believes the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold has played a major part in that.

According to Wright, the former Liverpool right-back’s link-up play and precise passing were crucial to Salah’s success on the right flank. Without that partnership, Salah appears far less effective.

Speaking on The Overlap, Wright said that Salah now “looks like a passenger” because he no longer has a player like Trent to quickly find him in dangerous positions.

“If you haven’t got someone like Trent to release him when he’s free, when you’ve got someone who can hit him straight away, then he looks exactly how he does now,” Wright explained. “They’ve taken that away from him. He can’t get that early ball, he can’t get that great pass from Trent, and he can’t go and do his thing.”

The challenge now falls to manager Arne Slot to reignite Salah’s form amid a reshaped Liverpool side. With Alexander-Arnold missing and several new players still adjusting, the team’s rhythm has suffered. At 33, Salah may also be feeling the effects of age, and it remains to be seen whether he can rediscover the form that made him one of the Premier League’s deadliest forwards.
