Tottenham supporters are unlikely to be pleased with the latest update concerning the club’s search for a new striker ahead of the January transfer window.
In recent weeks, several reports have indicated that Spurs are eager to bring in a number nine mid-season. The North London side have been named favourites to sign Dusan Vlahovic, who is believed to be seeking a move away from Juventus.
Other sources claim that Fabio Paratici is also eyeing Porto forward Samu Aghehowa, with the Spaniard said to have an £87 million release clause in his contract.
However, according to Football Insider, Tottenham are expected to face major challenges in securing a striker this winter. While Thomas Frank and his team ideally want to add a centre-forward, the club recognises how difficult it is to complete such deals in January.
As things stand, Spurs are unlikely to sign a new striker, meaning Frank will have to rely on Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, Randal Kolo Muani, and Mathys Tel until the situation is reassessed next summer.
Despite criticism from sections of the fanbase who feel Solanke is not at the required level, the forward registered 24 goal contributions last season—16 goals and eight assists—despite injury setbacks that affected his rhythm late in the campaign.
In his first interview as Tottenham head coach, Frank highlighted Solanke as one of the players he is most eager to work with, expressing confidence that the England international can score heavily this season. Known for his intelligent movement and ability to attack crosses, Solanke seems well suited to Frank’s preferred style of play.
