Arne Slot has revealed the reason behind substituting Alexander Isak.

Liverpool snapped their four-game winless run in style with a commanding 5–1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, featuring five different goalscorers after falling behind early. Hugo Ekitike sparked the comeback, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté heading home from set pieces before halftime, while Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the result after the break.

The only sour note came with Alexander Isak’s substitution at the interval. Arne Slot explained that the striker “felt his groin a little,” noting the need for caution after his disrupted pre-season and back-to-back appearances. Isak did test the goalkeeper twice before being withdrawn as a precaution rather than for performance reasons.

Slot urged cautious optimism, confirming that Isak will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brentford. Given the Swede’s history of groin troubles from his Newcastle days, Liverpool are expected to manage him carefully through a busy schedule.

There was further concern when Jeremie Frimpong limped off with another hamstring issue—his second of the campaign—which is set to sideline him for several weeks. His absence will likely rule him out of key November fixtures and increase pressure on Conor Bradley to step up defensively.

Despite the injury setbacks, Liverpool took plenty of encouragement. Ekitike looked sharp enough to deputize at No.9 if required, Curtis Jones achieved a personal milestone, and the attack flowed smoothly with Florian Wirtz pulling the strings. A resounding win, but with two fresh injuries to navigate and little recovery time before the next test.
