Tottenham supporters won’t be pleased with the latest Premier League prediction made by Paul Merson.
Paul Merson has shared his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s upcoming clash with Everton and believes the frustration for his former rivals is set to continue.
Tottenham’s season has been full of highs and lows from the very start. Impressive wins over Burnley and Manchester City were followed by a disappointing home defeat to Bournemouth, highlighting their ongoing inconsistency.
Since the international break, things haven’t improved much for Spurs. They suffered a loss to Aston Villa last weekend and were held to a goalless draw by Monaco in midweek.
Their next opponents, Everton, have also endured a mixed run of form, with their last three matches producing a draw, a win, and a defeat.
Merson predicts an entertaining stalemate between Tottenham and Everton
In his latest Premier League predictions, Merson criticised Spurs’ recent performances, saying they’ve struggled to beat sides they should be dispatching and even described them as “lucky.”
He told Sportskeeda: “Tottenham still have that ‘Spursy’ mentality, don’t they? They scraped a late draw against Wolves, got lucky again versus Bodo/Glimt, beat Leeds, then threw away a lead against Aston Villa last weekend. Even in the Champions League against Monaco, they were held to a draw and gave up plenty of chances.”
However, Merson also questioned Everton’s attacking threat, singling out their striker situation.
“Everton started the season well but have dipped recently,” he added. “They desperately need a result. Jack Grealish being back will help and he’ll trouble Spurs, but their issue is up front. No disrespect to Beto, but he’s not good enough to win them games.
“Tottenham tend to do better when the pressure’s off, but this time they’ll be expected to bounce back. I’m going for an entertaining draw.”

Merson’s remarks once again rely on the overused “Spursy” label he’s used throughout the season. In reality, Tottenham’s struggles reflect a team still adapting under a new manager rather than one lacking character.
He dismisses the determination Spurs have shown in snatching late goals against Wolves and Bodo/Glimt, choosing instead to call it luck.
His take on Everton is equally inconsistent — claiming their lack of a reliable striker is their biggest weakness, yet still predicting they’ll score twice. Overall, Merson’s comments seem more rooted in his long-standing bias against Tottenham than balanced football analysis.
