Top source hints at the true cause behind Mohamed Salah’s struggles at Liverpool
Liverpool’s recent slump has sparked growing criticism of both manager Arne Slot and several senior players.
A 3-2 defeat to Brentford on 25 October marked their fourth consecutive Premier League loss, following defeats to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
Among those under scrutiny is Mohamed Salah, whose performances have drawn concern despite scoring late against Brentford. The Egyptian forward has struggled to influence matches, looking far from the level that saw him produce 29 goals and 18 assists last season.
Salah adapting to Liverpool’s major changes
According to Football Insider (24 October), Salah is finding it difficult to meet his own exceptionally high standards while adjusting to significant changes in Liverpool’s attack.
On the Inside Track podcast, it was revealed that the winger has had trouble forming chemistry with new arrivals Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz, who joined to replace Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz. With only Cody Gakpo remaining from last season’s frontline, Salah is effectively leading a rebuilt attack.
The report noted:

He’s been criticised, but there’s no internal panic at Liverpool — the staff know what he’s capable of. Once he settles with his new teammates, his output should rise again.”
Liverpool spent £446 million in the summer expecting to dominate opponents, but the new-look squad has yet to deliver consistent results.
Slot’s concern over Salah’s dip
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider (23 October) that Arne Slot is growing worried about several key players, particularly Salah, whose form has slumped since last season’s title-winning campaign.
Figures such as Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have struggled to replicate their previous performances, with Salah even dropped to the bench in the 5-1 win over Frankfurt.
Wayne Rooney also recently accused Slot’s team of complacency, suggesting their form has dipped following last season’s triumph and a hectic transfer window.
Salah has reportedly been warned that his place in the starting XI could be in jeopardy if his struggles continue.
