Sources: Ibrahima Konaté nearing Liverpool departure after major update
Ibrahima Konaté is edging closer to a Liverpool exit, according to sources who spoke to Football Insider.
The 26-year-old defender’s future at Anfield is uncertain, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season. Negotiations over a new deal have stalled, and there’s growing belief within the club that he will depart next summer.
Konaté has recently been linked with Real Madrid, with insiders describing the Spanish club’s interest as “genuine.”
The French international has endured a disappointing season, drawing criticism for his performances — including a poor showing in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford on Saturday (25 October). That result marked the Reds’ fourth consecutive Premier League loss, their worst domestic run since February 2021.
Despite earlier reports suggesting Liverpool were unwilling to part with Konaté, ongoing disagreements over contract terms have made his departure increasingly likely.
With his exit looming, the club has already begun exploring replacements. Liverpool remain keen on signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, whose move collapsed on deadline day but could be revived next summer. Guehi is expected to leave Palace at the end of the season, and Liverpool are reportedly leading the race for his signature.
Another potential target is Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, whose contract also expires next summer — although he may still extend his stay in Germany.
