Carragher identifies major “crisis” issue Liverpool need to resolve after suffering fourth consecutive defeat
Liverpool’s latest Premier League defeat has sparked strong criticism from Jamie Carragher, who pinpointed what he sees as a major flaw dragging the team into “crisis territory.”
Carragher slams Liverpool’s lack of physical presence
Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League, the former Reds defender dissected the 3–2 loss to Brentford — a result that makes it four league defeats in a row for the reigning champions, their worst stretch since February 2021.
“I want to talk about the lack of physicality in this Liverpool team,” Carragher said. “It’s becoming a real issue. Conor Bradley gets too tight to his man because he doesn’t trust his own physicality, and that’s why he’s collecting so many yellow cards.”
Carragher added that the problem runs throughout the side.
“Liverpool don’t win the first challenge, they don’t get on the second ball,” he explained. “They’re simply not built for the physical demands of this Premier League season.”
Once again, Brentford’s long-throw tactic proved decisive, with Dango Ouattara striking early. Carragher argued that Liverpool’s shortage of “height and strength” in defensive positions continues to make them easy targets for direct teams.
“Crisis time” warning for Liverpool
Carragher didn’t sugar-coat his assessment of the club’s situation.
“We’re in crisis time for Liverpool right now,” he declared. “Serious questions need to be asked — of the players, the coaching staff, and those above — because after the money spent this summer, this run is unacceptable.”
Former striker John Aldridge echoed those concerns, saying recent performances have been painful for both fans and ex-players to watch.
Although goals from Milos Kerkez and Mo Salah offered some hope, the damage was already done. Liverpool now sit seventh in the table and in desperate need of a reset.
It’s not the first time Carragher has criticised the team’s defensive organisation — but with each setback, his warnings are starting to sound more urgent.
