Tottenham have been informed they could land a “powerful player” as a potential replacement for Dominic Solanke at a cut-price deal in the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window as they consider upgrading on Dominic Solanke.
Spurs have enjoyed a solid start to the season, bouncing back from a string of disappointing results in the Premier League and Europe with an impressive victory over Everton at the weekend. Thomas Frank’s men currently sit third in the table — a position they would have gladly accepted at the start of the campaign given last season’s struggles.
However, the coming weeks present a real test, with a demanding run of fixtures that includes league matches against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal, as well as a cup tie against Newcastle and a Champions League showdown with holders PSG. By the end of November, Tottenham’s ambitions for the season should be much clearer, particularly regarding their push for Champions League qualification.
With sporting director Fabio Paratici now back at work following a FIFA suspension, the club is already planning for the winter market. According to TBR Football, Spurs could revisit a move for Dusan Vlahovic, a player they were linked with in 2022 before his switch to Juventus.
Reports suggest Juventus may be open to selling the striker for around £20 million in January to avoid losing him for free next summer, as his contract nears expiry. Clubs outside Italy will be able to negotiate a pre-contract with him from January 1, but Tottenham could steal a march by securing a deal beforehand.
The price represents a major discount from the £66.6 million Juventus paid for Vlahovic, who has scored 45 goals in 112 Serie A appearances and remains only 25 years old, with six goals in 14 games this season.
Former Juventus boss Igor Tudor praised the forward earlier this year, saying:
> “In this month and a half of preparation he has always been focused, he has worked as an example. Comolli said he is staying and I’m happy. He is a strong player and hopefully he keeps up this scoring rate, which is no small thing.”
Meanwhile, Solanke’s form has come under scrutiny. The £65 million signing has managed just nine goals in 29 league appearances and has struggled with fitness, missing 22 games since March due to injuries.
Although Solanke hasn’t been outright poor, his performances have fallen short of expectations, and patience among supporters and pundits appears to be wearing thin. Reports also suggest Frank is growing increasingly frustrated with the striker’s inconsistency.
The addition of Vlahovic would not only inject fresh competition up front but could also allow Tottenham to reassess Solanke’s future at the end of the season if his performances fail to improve.
