Sources: Celtic set to approach Ange Postecoglou about stunning managerial comeback

Celtic are preparing to approach Ange Postecoglou to gauge his interest in making a sensational return as manager, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Celtic boss, recently sacked by Nottingham Forest, has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite to succeed Brendan Rodgers, who resigned on Monday night.

Earlier this month, Football Insider reported that Postecoglou was “open” to a return to Glasgow, where he enjoyed major success during his previous spell in charge.

The club are now expected to reach out to the Australian, in what would be a remarkable development following his two Premier League dismissals in just four months — at Tottenham and then Forest.

If reappointed, Postecoglou would become the third straight Celtic manager to have two separate stints at the helm, following in the footsteps of Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

The 60-year-old first took charge in 2021 after Lennon’s exit and led the Hoops to two highly successful seasons before leaving for Tottenham in 2023. Rodgers then returned to replace him, guiding Celtic to back-to-back league titles but ultimately parting ways with the board amid growing tensions.

Currently, Celtic are in danger of losing their Scottish Premiership crown, sitting eight points behind leaders Hearts.

Postecoglou’s managerial reputation has taken a significant hit since leaving Parkhead. Although he won the Europa League with Tottenham, the club slumped to a disastrous 17th-place Premier League finish under his watch. His short-lived stint at Nottingham Forest also ended poorly, leaving his career at a low point.

Now, Celtic could offer Postecoglou the perfect opportunity to rebuild his reputation and revive his managerial career.
