Stephen Warnock spotted Virgil van Dijk’s immediate reaction at Anfield following Amara Nallo’s red card.
Amara Nallo made only his second senior appearance for Liverpool on Wednesday night, but just like his debut, it was cut short in unfortunate circumstances.
The 18-year-old lasted just four minutes on his first outing against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last January before being shown a red card, and history repeated itself as Crystal Palace knocked the Reds out of the Carabao Cup.
This time, Nallo was brought on in the 67th minute but was dismissed 12 minutes later for a professional foul on Justin Devenny.

It was another tough moment in the teenager’s young career, and Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk made sure to seek him out after the red card to offer words of comfort.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Stephen Warnock said:
“What a horrible feeling for the youngster, Amara Nallo. There’s nothing worse than being sent off on your debut, and then to have it happen again in your next game. I just saw Virgil van Dijk walk down the tunnel – you’ve got to try to lift the lad’s spirits.”
A valuable lesson for the youngster
Nallo now holds the unfortunate record of playing just 16 senior minutes for Liverpool and being sent off twice, both for denying clear goal-scoring opportunities.
While his dismissal didn’t change the outcome of the match — Palace were already 2–0 ahead — it was still a painful personal setback. Yet Van Dijk’s gesture of support showed strong leadership and empathy toward a young teammate facing early adversity.
For Nallo, the focus now will be on learning from this experience and bouncing back stronger. His talent is clear, and with the right mindset, he can move past this episode and continue his development at Liverpool.
