“Top defender” keen on Liverpool move despite transfer interest from Man Utd and Tottenham

Liverpool are reportedly still in pole position to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi as his contract approaches its end.

The England international has impressed at Selhurst Park but will become a free agent at the end of the season, potentially sparking competition for his signature. Journalist Graeme Bailey previously told TBR Football that Manchester United could challenge Liverpool for the defender, as the situation has reopened following the Reds’ failure to land him in the summer. Tottenham have also been mentioned as contenders.

However, according to Indy Kaila, Guehi remains keen on joining Liverpool. The 25-year-old would be a smart addition for the Reds, with Ibrahima Konaté nearing the end of his deal and Virgil van Dijk entering the latter stages of his career.

That said, Guehi would also fit well at Manchester United, who often deploy a back three and could use reliable options beyond Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, especially given Lisandro Martínez’s recurring injuries.

Former United forward Louis Saha recently praised Guehi in the Manchester Evening News, calling him “a top player and a leader” and urging his former club to beat Liverpool to his signature — even if it means paying £20 million above market value.

“I think he’s an excellent player,” Saha said. “He’s consistent, dependable, and communicates well. He’s the kind of defender who will certainly play for a major club and compete for big trophies in the future.”
