“That’s the last question I was expecting!” he said via Liverpool FC on YouTube. “My focus is completely on getting Liverpool back to winning ways. Contract talks—if they even exist—aren’t something we discuss here. Let’s start winning again first; that’s my main focus.”
Slot keeps contract matters private
Slot’s reluctance to comment publicly on contractual issues is nothing new. Throughout last season, he consistently avoided commenting on the futures of players like Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
It was therefore no surprise that he sidestepped questions about his own position today. In truth, it’s premature to question his Liverpool status given how quickly fortunes can change in football.
Tomorrow’s opponents, Aston Villa, are proof of that — they were 17 places and 12 points behind Liverpool just five weeks ago but are now level on points with the champions.
