Following Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield, Mohamed Salah struck a thoughtful tone in his post-match interview, voicing his concern over what he called a “difficult” beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Even though the Egyptian star found the net and reached an impressive milestone of 250 goals for the Reds, he made it clear that both he and the team are still far from their best as the club’s new arrivals continue to find their feet.

“I’m not pleased with how we’ve started this season,” Salah told reporters, via Fabrizio Romano.

“It’s been a challenging season so far because we have several new players. They’re top signings, but they need time to adapt.”

Salah frustrated despite milestone goal

While Liverpool looked strong against Aston Villa and Salah grabbed his 250th goal for the club, his words underline his hunger for higher standards from himself and the squad.

Perhaps that relentless mentality is what has driven his success at Anfield — and what he believes is needed again this season.

After four straight league losses, Liverpool have slipped in the title race, now sitting seven points behind leaders Arsenal.

Some of the club’s summer signings, such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, have been criticised for slow starts, while full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are still adjusting to the demands of playing for a club of Liverpool’s stature.

Salah stressed the importance of chemistry and time in getting Liverpool back to their best.

“We just need time to adapt and understand each other’s style,” he added.

“Everything will come together.”

His remarks echo the message recently shared by manager Arne Slot, who has also urged patience as the new-look squad develops.

Ultimately, although the victory over Aston Villa offered encouragement, Salah’s honest reflection served as a reminder that this Liverpool side is still a work in progress — and he will not settle for anything below the highest level.
